Anuradhapura North area to get safe water supply

01.Safe drinking water for the people living in Anuradhapura North area, with loan facilities amounting Sri Lankan Rs.7,458 million from Japanese Govt

On the proposal made by H.E. the President, to construct a Water Supply Scheme to provide safe drinking water for the people living in Anuradhapura North area, with loan facilities amounting to Japanese Yen 5,166 million (approximately Rs.7,458 million) to be provided by the Government of Japan, was approved by the Cabinet.

It is intended to cover Medawachchiya and Rambewa Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Anuradhapura District in the first instance, and to implement the design stage of the Wahalkada Water Supply Scheme.

In Anuradhapura District, 85 percent of the population living in rural areas is depend on the sources of unsafe ground water which contains high fluoride and hardness for their drinking and other requirements because of lack of enough water supply facility. It is intend to enter into a Loan agreement with the JICA for the above purpose.
