BETHEL — After a lively discussion, Bethel selectmen voted to postpone a Sept. 8 special town meeting vote on whether to remove the fluoride from town drinking water. They instead scheduled the vote for June 9, 2015.

“I’ve sat through a couple of special town meetings and had to eat humble pie when we did things in haste,” Selectman Don Bennett said when he made the motion to postpone.

The vote will be by referendum on the day before the annual town meeting.

Chairman Stan Howe said he thought the turnout would be better, and Bennett and Selectman Pat Carter both said they thought more time was needed for people to research the issue.
