The City of Newburgh will be transitioning its source of drinking water from Brown’s Pond to the Catskill Aqueduct on January 27, 2020.

The process will take approximately two to three days for the existing drinking water in the City’s water mains and water storage tanks to be consumed and fully replaced with filtered water from the Catskill Aqueduct. The City will remain on the Catskill Aqueduct as a source of drinking water until the planned shutdown of the Catskill Aqueduct sometime in the fall of 2020. The shutdown in fall 2020 will allow the NYC Department of Environmental Protection to inspect and repair the aqueduct infrastructure.

City residents can expect a seamless transition to this source water with no effect on water quality. The City of Newburgh will issue a notification in the fall of 2020 when the Catskill Aqueduct is shut down and the City of Newburgh switches back to Brown’s Pond.
