PORT ANGELES — A citizens group opposing fluoridation of the city water supply has retained a Seattle environmental attorney to explore possible legal action.

Clallam County Citizens for Safe Drinking Water, which says it has grown to more than 104 members, recently raised about $3,000 to hire Gerald Steel, who has also served as legal counsel for Protect the Peninsula Future, a Clallam County environmental group.

“We’re anxiously awaiting information from our attorney as to our options and how we should proceed,” group secretary Sharon Ford, said Thursday.

Although she declined to comment on what points of law could be challenged until the lawyer advised the group, Citizens for Safe Drinking Water member Dr. Eloise Kailin said there were “many” legal issues that could be taken up with the city.
