Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is all set to restart the age-old tradition of setting up Piyau (Water Hut) in Pink City, however in a different manner.
The municipal corporation will be introducing the concept of modern Piyau. Under this plan, drinking water kiosks will be installed at 200 locations across the city by JMC.
People will get RO [reverse osmosis] water on these kiosks, without paying for it. The municipal corporation has issued orders for kiosks. Installation of these kiosks will begin next week. For these water kiosks, the municipal corporation has signed a contract with an NGO Ekajal Sanstha. JMC will set up these water kiosks on public-private partnership (PPP)basis. The Ekajal Sanstha will not take any amount from the municipal corporation for the installation of kiosks and water.Instead, the Municipal Corporation will provide space to the organisation for kiosks by marking the location.
Additionally, the institution will be able to advertise on 50 square feet area around the kiosks. Company can cover water kiosk expenditure through advertising. According to municipal authorities,the institution will install RO machines of modern technology on kiosks.The cost of this machine will be around 18 lakh rupees.The water machine on each kiosk will discharge 1,000 litres of water in one hour. This machine will also clean the elements from water like arsenic, lead and fluoride.
“We have issued the LOI (Letter of Interest) to the institution for water kiosks. Soon the institution will start installing the kiosks. The public will get pure RO water on kiosks and they will not have to pay for this.It will be for the first time in the city that local people will get purer water than the bottle packed water, said mayor Ashok Lahoti.
