Keizer City Council will discuss water fluoridation expenditures at today’s meeting.

City Council has requested the work session.

Director of public works Rob Kissler said in his staff report to the council that the estimated cost in 2010 to fluoridate city water — including labor, testing, chemicals, monitoring, supplies — is about $48,067.

The city water system has nine pump stations with fluoridation capability and has plans to extend the capability to its six other pump stations during the next four years, Kissler said. To do so would cost about $9,600 per station, or $57,618 for all six stations.

Operation and maintenance costs for six additional fluoride systems would cost about $30,505 per year.

The council will discuss the costs of fluoridation expenditures and then direct the staff on a preferred policy.
