Emergency crews have responded to a fluoride leak at the Marysville Water Filtration Plant, 1535 River Road.

According to Tom Konik, Marysville chief of public safety, emergency crews believe they have now contained the fluoride to the building. Some fluoride had leaked from the south side of the building into a drain and from there into the St. Clair River.

Konik said workers believe the fluoride will be diluted and will not have an effect on the St. Clair River.

Chrysler Beach has been closed as a precaution.

The tank that leaked contained about 1,000 gallons. Konik did not know how much had leaked.

Chrysler Beach in Marysville had been closed because of high E. coli levels and will remain closed, Konik said.

Crews from the Marysville police and fire departments, the St. Clair County Hazmat Team and St. Clair County Emergency Management are at the scene.

Emergency crews were called to the plant about 10:15 a.m.
