Port Angeles city council to meet on fluoride vote language

The Port Angeles city council meets tonight to come up with the ballot language for an advisory vote on fluoride.

Last week, the council voted 4-3 to ask voters what they thought about continuing adding fluoride to the water system.

The non-binding vote will be on the November ballot, but wording for the ballot must be in to the auditor’s office by August 4th.

The city’s contract with Washington Dental Foundation that is paying to add fluoride expires next year. The city has been adding fluoride since 2006.

City officials also plan to ask some PUD customers outside of the city limits their thoughts about fluoride. It’s not known yet how the city will get those comments, but city council members last week wanted the input since some PUD water customers get their water from the city through a contractual agreement.
