Southampton: Fluoride matter is out of our hands

IN response to the letter ‘Irony of water improvements’ (Daily Echo, August 1), I’d like to clarify Southern Water’s position on the issue of fluoride .

Under the Water Act 2003, if a strategic health authority requests us to dose fluoride, then by law we must do so.

This is a health matter and the health authority makes the decision, not Southern Water.

All costs for the installation and operation of the fluoride dosing plants are met by the health authority and not Southern Water customers.

We cannot take a medical or ethical view on the subject.
