The Department of Health has issued a reminder that parents can now pick up their children’s summer supply of fluoride tablets.
The fluoride tablets may now be picked up at the government clinics in Hamilton, St. George’s and Somerset between 8.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. or 1.45 p.m. and 4.45 p.m.

Dr. Celia Musson Nzabalinda said that fluoride is handed out to students because it “helps to prevent tooth decay with daily exposures”.
“Since we started the preventive programme ? of which fluoride is a major feature ? we have seen a better than 80 percent reduction in decay,” she said.
“Normally, parents receive a bottle of fluoride with a child proof lock top at the beginning of summer. The parents then administer the tablets daily. But this year the tablets did not arrive until a week after the schools closed,” she said.
Last week the Department of Health apologised to parents for any inconvenience. The fluoride is back in stock and is ready for collection.
