The New South Wales Government has commissioned a new water fluoridation plant in Menindee.

The Minister for Water, Phillip Costa, announced the new $210,000 plant to improve dental health during a visit to the far west yesterday.

Mr Costa says the system will bring Menindee into line with many other communities in the state.

“The community of Menindee will once [and] for all have a fluoridation system going through their water supply like many other communities across NSW,” he said.

“Fluoridation will help with the dental health of the community, particularly the kids.

“It’s something that the Premier announced some time ago, that we would be putting dollars into fluoridation across NSW, country communities, towns over a thousand people and it’s great to see Menindee is being caught up in it.”

Mr Costa says Country Water’s $29 million water treatment plant in Broken Hill will be commissioned by mid-2010.
