In the weeks since the Wichita City Council voted to put the question of whether to add fluoride to the city’s water on the ballot both opponents and supporters of the idea have been fairly quiet.

But, coinciding with the release of the new Factfinder 12 Scientific Survey on Thursday, they’re starting to make their presence known through yard signs, brochures, and voters guides.

When asked about the results of the poll both Wichitans for Healthy Teeth, which supports fluoridation, and Wichitans Opposed to Fluoridation found something positive in it, along with a guide of what to do in the coming weeks.

“Excellent,” said Don Landis of Wichitans Opposed to Fluoridation when informed of the numbers.  “Forty-six to 40 is very encouraging to us, considering that our main thrust of our campaign will kick in now, in the month of October, leading up to November 6th and the vote.”

Dr. Sara Meng, a dentist with Wichitans for Healthy Teeth, said, “There’s a lot of information going out there and with the coming weeks we plan to take our message to the people and help them see the benefits of community water fluoridation.”

Another thing you can expect to see a lot of from the two groups in the next few weeks will be presentations at public forums. Also, both sides are relying on the internet to help get the word out through websites and social media.
