The drinking water for Yarrawonga and surrounding towns will be fluoridated within the next month.

The fluoride will make up one part per million in the water to protect teeth against decay.

Local dentists and health services lobbied to have the substance added.

Victoria’s chief health officer, John Carnie, says residents will get information in the mail about the fluoride.

“We’re writing to residents of Yarrawonga and surrounding areas to indicate that the water supply will have fluoride added to it from about the middle of next month,” he said.

“Now clearly this is being done as this Government’s commitment to provide the benefits of fluoride to people in rural and regional Victoria.”
