Abstract
Six cases of urticaria are reported in which trace quantities of fluoride proved to have played a major etiological role. The causative relationship was established by blindfold tests, by the history and by the concomittant symptomatology. Following an oral test dose of fluoride given to five of the six cases a significantly lower urinary F-output was noted than in normal controls.

Incipient fluorine intoxication from drinking water
Summary 1. Further evidence based on data on 52 cases tends to confirm previous observations that fluoride-containing drinking water in concentrations around 1 ppm accounts for a characteristic clinical syndrome. Its principal manifestations are: stiffness and pains in back; paresthesias and pain in legs and arms, especially the ulnar nerve area;

Symptoms experienced during periods of actual and supposed water fluoridation
Fluoridation of water is a controversial measure because of the suspicion that it has harmful effects on health. Opinions differ as to the reality of these fears. In Kuopio, after distressing disputes over the fluoridation issue, the City Council decided to stop fluoridation at the end of 1992. In fact,

Fluoroderma
Papulonodular eruptions from certain bromide and iodide preparations are widely recognized entities, but skin lesions following fluoride ingestion are rare. Modern prophylaxis for postirradiation dental caries includes the use of fluoride gel preparations applied to the teeth. In two patients receiving such therapy a papulonodular eruption developed, similar to the

Fluoride toothpaste: a cause of acne-like eruptions
I feel that I should share with my colleagues in dermatology an observation relative to the treatment of problem acne. All of us have the adult female acne patient who has closed comedonal or papular acne extending from the corner of the mouth to the chin area, sometimes in a

Allergy in horses from artificially fluoridated water
As described recently in Fluoride, horses on artificially fluoridated water (AFW) developed chronic fluoride poisoning. This report describes an allergic manifestation as an addition to the classical signs of fluorosis, viz., urticaria. The skin lesions disappeared promptly when an affected horse was removed from AFW and returned promptly when the

Allergy to Fluoride
Six children and one adult exhibited various allergic reactions after the use of toothpaste and vitaimin preparations containing fluoride. The following conditions were encountered: Urticaria, exfoliative dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, stomatitis, gastro-intestinal and respiratory allergy.

Fluoride & Perioral Dermatitis
Perioral dermatitis (PD) is a common rosacea-like dermatitis that was never reported prior to the mid-fifties. Although it can affect both sexes and all ages, most patients are women ages 20-50 years. Patients with PD frequently report a pre-existing tendency to blush. This disease is most likely multifactorial in origin, and fluoride preparations in dentrifices probably have played a role as precipitator.

Fluoridation, Dialysis & Osteomalacia
In the 1960s and 1970s, doctors discovered that patients receiving kidney dialysis were accumulating very high levels of fluoride in their bones and blood, and that this exposure was associated with severe forms of osteomalacia, a bone-softening disease that leads to weak bones and often excruciating bone pain. Based on

Nutrient Deficiencies Enhance Fluoride Toxicity
It has been known since the 1930s that poor nutrition enhances the toxicity of fluoride. As discussed below, nutrient deficiencies have been specifically linked to increased susceptibility to fluoride-induced tooth damage (dental fluorosis), bone damage (osteomalacia), neurotoxicity (reduced intelligence), and mutagenicity. The nutrients of primary importance appear to be calcium,
