Press Release from FMC
March 18, 2005
Aria(TM) Insecticide is Now Available
for Greenhouse Rotation
- Advanced Chemistry
- Highly Effective on Aphids but Soft on Beneficial Insects
PHILADELPHIA, March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FMC Corporation
(NYSE: FMC - News), makers of Talstar® brand products, has
announced that Aria insecticide is available for use on ornamentals
grown indoors in greenhouses and interiorscapes. It is especially
effective against aphids, one of the most economically important
greenhouse pests, as well as mealy bugs. The
registration of Aria is the first in the world for its active
ingredient, flonicamid, and represents the first product registration
as a result of an agreement between FMC and Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha,
Ltd. (ISK).
Aria represents an advanced chemistry that stops aphids from feeding
within one hour of treatment, eliminating them altogether in 3-5
days. This speed provides greenhouse producers protection of their
investment by stopping aphids' damaging behavior quickly and effectively,
and defending against virus transmission.
"Aria is tough on all major species of aphids but easy on
most plant species and ornamentals," says Don Claus, Director,
Specialty Products Business, FMC Agricultural Products Group.
"It's a softer, 'green' chemistry around birds, honeybees
and beneficial insects, with no observed effect on coleopterans,
lepidopterans or arachnids."
"Aria represents a new class of chemistry with a new mode
of action," adds Kim Watson, Global Development Manager.
"And it has no known cross-resistance with other insecticides.
It has demonstrated outstanding environmental qualities, making
Aria an important new tool in integrated pest management (IPM)
programs."
Aria insecticide is available in convenient
foil pouches (0.7 ounce/20 grams), packaged in boxes of 6 pouches
each. Aria is available in all states in the Continental United
States, except for California, where registration is expected
within nine months.
The introduction of Aria marks the latest new product that FMC
has introduced by partnering with other companies to develop and
commercialize new technologies specifically for the pest control
and turf & ornamental markets. It is another of the initiatives
the company announced at NPMA in November 2004. (For more details,
