ACUTE TOXICITY
A deadly human poison by ingestion and possibly other routes.
Experimental poison by ingestion, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous,
intravenous, intramuscular and possibly other routes (Sax & Lewis, 1989)
Routes of entry are inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, eye and
skin contact. Acute exposure effects include cardiac irregularities,
Central Nervous System (CNS) disturbances, convulsions, coma, anxiety,
auditory hallucinations, excitation/depression, incontinence, nausea,
vomiting, organ congestion, renal tube degeneration, respiratory problems,
salivation, spinal pressure, twitching of face and citrate accumulation in
tissues. There may be a latency period before symptoms begin. Points of
attack are cardiovascular system, the CNS, lungs and kidneys. Lethal dose
for man is approximately 5mg/kg (ENVCHEM).

CHRONIC TOXICITY No data found (ENVCHEM).
Carcinogenic: Unknown (NTP)
Mutagenic: Unknown (NTP)
Teratogenic: Unknown (NTP)

ACTION ON ANIMALS
Acute oral rat LD 50: 0.2mg/kg (ENVCHEM). In general, marsupials
are more resistant to 1080 than placentals, though this is not always the
case.
