Dear Supporter:
Before we get to the new article published recently in the Scientific World Journal calling for a worldwide reassessment of fluoridation based upon the latest science indicating lack of effectiveness and its many health risks, we wanted to remind you about the upcoming fluoridation conference.
As we explained in our last bulletin, we have scheduled our fifth Citizen’s Conference on Fluoride for September 6 and 7. The conference will take place close to Washington, DC, and will be followed by the first ever fluoridation lobby day on Monday, September 8. (See past conferences)
This conference aims to take the current momentum building up against fluoridation and deliver a 1-2-3 punch (information, organization, and action) against this practice in Washington, DC.
Saturday – Sept 6. This will consist of the latest scientific information presented by the FAN team including (Bill Hirzy and Michael Connett). They will be joined by researcher Quanyong Xiang from the CDC in China. Xiang’s work on lowered IQ was one of the key papers reviewed by the Harvard university team (Choi et al., 2012).
Sunday – Sept 7. It should be very clear by Saturday afternoon that the science of fluoridation’s risks should force an end to this practice. However, this science is being ignored by federal agencies which seem more intent on protecting the policy of fluoridation than the health of the American people. So Sunday will consist of organization. We will pose the question: How can we get Federal Agencies like the EPA and the DHHS to do an honest job reviewing the science on this issue?
Monday Sept 8. We will be sending a delegation to the US EPA Office of Water. This office could end fluoridation tomorrow if they used standard regulatory procedures honestly in a risk assessment to determine a new safe drinking water standard goal (MCLG) for fluoride. We will also be lobbying Congress where we will begin a 9-month campaign to cut off funding for the CDC’s biased and ill-informed promotion of fluoridation. Our message: No taxpayers’ money should be spent on propaganda. Propaganda should be left to private entities like the ADA and Pew, who have a huge amount of money to spend on this matter.
In addition to all this, you’ll have the opportunity to meet campaigners from around the country (and beyond) and the FAN team in person.
Currently we are looking at a hotel in Crystal City (near the DC National airport) with a price range of $99 to $112 (including taxes) for double occupancy rooms.
If you would like to attend this conference either on your own or as a representative of your local fluoride-free group please email FAN the number of people you expect in your party: Email Paul today.
Journal Article Calls for Prohibition of Fluoridation
This past week The Scientific World Journal published a review article by Dr. Stephen Peckham and Dr. Niyi Awofeso entitled, “Water Fluoridation: A Critical Review of the Physiological Effects of Ingested Fluoride as a Public Health Intervention.”
According to the authors,
“available evidence suggests that fluoride has a potential to cause major adverse human health problems, while having only a modest dental caries prevention effect. As part of efforts to reduce hazardous fluoride ingestion, the practice of artificial water fluoridation should be reconsidered globally, while industrial safety measures need to be tightened in order to reduce unethical discharge of fluoride compounds into the environment…coordinated global efforts to reduce adverse human health effects on fluoride need to start with ensuring that its introduction into water supplies is prohibited”
Watch Dr. Connett’s Presentation in Seattle
A new video of Dr. Paul Connett’s complete presentation on the Case Against Fluoride has been made available for free online. It was filmed in Seattle at the Town Hall Theater on March 17, and is has great picture and sound. Please share this with your fellow campaigners, family, co-workers, and friends. Watch It Now
Sincerely,
Stuart Cooper
