A big day for anti-fluoridation activists in the United States.

In a press conference jointly held with EPA head Lee Zeldin on April 7, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., made his first statement on fluoride since taking over the agency, telling the nation that fluoridated water is headed down the same path as leaded gasoline.

“The indicators are that fluoride damages IQ in the same way that leaded gasoline, at about the same level, does. We saw about a 2 point IQ hike, nationally, about 20 years after the ban on leaded gasoline. We WILL see a difference.” – HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy

In today’s major developments we learned that:

  • Secretary Kennedy will instruct the CDC to end its promotion of water fluoridation due to fluoride’s neurological effects.
  • The EPA will now “expeditiously review new science on fluoride in drinking water.”

Last week the office of CDC’s Division of Oral Health, the main promoter of water fluoridation in the U.S. government, was dissolved, the Chief Dental Officer role was eliminated, and 17% of staff were laid off at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), another main promoter of water fluoridation.

Today, Kennedy condemned water fluoridation saying:

Fluoride should not be in our water. Fluoride had a strong justification in the 1940s when it was added and people didn’t understand the science and they thought its benefits to our teeth was systemic. That by drinking it it would enter your body and somehow protect your teeth. No we know that there is no systemic advantage, zero systemic advantage, and that the only advantage comes from topical application. You can achieve that benefit from brushing your teeth. In the era of fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash, it makes no sense to have fluoride in our water. The evidence against fluoride is overwhelmingIn animal models and in human models we know that it causes IQ loss. Profound IQ loss. And it’s dose-related. So the more fluoride you get, the higher the levels in your drinking water, your urine, the more likely it is you’ll lose IQ, and also other neurological injuries like ADHD.Science indicates that it affects kidney health, it affects liver health, and it causes hypothyroidism, and it causes osteoarthritis.Women who are more exposed have up to 50% more hip fractures than women who are unexposed. It causes fluorosis in between 40-80% of our kids. It makes no sense to have it in our water supply. I’m very, very proud of this state [Utah], the first state to ban it, and I hope many more will come.
