Earlier this year, Michael Connett, an environmental attorney and public health advocate who led FAN’s historic legal battleand victory against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over the neurotoxicity of fluoridation chemicals, was asked to go on a speaking tour of New Zealand. Our friends at Fluoride Free NZ organized the events and FAN assisted with the travel costs, and he successfully filled halls to capacity, including in Whangarei and Rotorua. He also used the opportunity to meet and talk with members of local and national government bodies.

Like the U.S., New Zealand is one of the few nations in the world practicing water fluoridation, and since 2021, they are one of only two nations (Ireland being the other) with a fluoridation mandate. The mandate, which was passed in the midst of the pandemic, was the public health bureaucracy and national government’s response to fluoride free activists making extensive progress ending the practice town-by-town for many years. Despite the mandate, towns are still putting up a strong fight, hence why it was important they heard directly from Connett.
Connett’s presentations were made free to the public and open to all, including the media and policymakers. Fluoride Free NZ made a high quality film from what they called “his best talk,” which took place in Wellington. Connett takes us through the ups and downs of the eight year long court case and focuses on the science on fluoridations potential harm, insights from the legal battle, and why communities across the globe are banning the practice.
As said on the night the presentation was given, “if this was broadcast on TV, fluoridation would be over by the morning.”
Help Spread the Word
FAN would like to have more of our experts present to more audiences around the U.S., North America, and even the world. We’re constantly being asked to present to communities and organizations, as well as engage with decision makers, and when we can do so virtually, we try to make it happen. But often times legislative and city council hearings do not allow presentations using Zoom or other virtual means; experts must attend in person. Travel costs limit where we can go, but with your tax-deductible donations, we could educate far more people, win more battles, and build more momentum. Please help us make this a reality in 2026.
In the past 24 hours, we’ve raised $960 from 17 supporters, bringing our current total for our to $15,820 from 101 donorstowards FAN’s 2026 operating budget goal of $150,000 from 600 donors by midnight on December 31st. Thank you to all who have supported our work.
DOUBLING CHALLENGE IN EFFECT: A longtime donor from Kansas will match the next $1,000 donated to FAN. Have double the impact with your support, please donate today to help us take advantage of this pledge.
MAPLE SYRUP PROMO UPDATE: Thanks to Jack Crowther, we’re mailing a pint of pure small-batch Vermont maple syrup to the next 13 people who donate $150 or more who live in the United States. So far, 17 supporters will be having syrup sent to their homes in January. Anyone who donated $150 prior to December 8th, or does so after the first 30 pints have been claimed from now through January 1st, will be entered into a random drawing for the remaining 10 pints.
