Over FAN’s 25 years of existence, we’ve worked closely with citizen campaigners, community organizers, coalition partners, and decision makers to end fluoridation in hundreds of communities, protecting millions of citizens from the side-effects of ingesting fluoride. Up until a year ago, our progress was slow and steady, with fluoridation statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) confirming that we were not only successful in stopping the expansion of the practice from 2010 on, but we were also making incremental progress in reducing the percentage of the population drinking fluoridated water. This was no small feat, since our annual budget is more than a thousand-times smaller than that of the American Dental Association (ADA), let alone the collective budget of their partners in this effort, the CDC, Dental Dental, the phosphate fertilizer industry, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
But things changed rapidly a year ago after the publication of the National Toxicology Program’s (NTP) systemic review of fluoride neurotoxicity, followed by our legal victory in federal court against the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Since October of 2024, there has been a rapidly growing list of communities either ending or rejecting water fluoridation, accounting for nearly 20 million fewer people exposed to hazardous fluoridation chemicals, and another 10 million protected from the threat of fluoridation. Not a bad year!
FAN researchers have also compiled population data from these recent victories and have compared them to the CDC’s official fluoridation statistics to find that these victories have led to a dramatic and unprecedented reduction in the percentage of the US population drinking fluoridated water.
We’re excited to share our list of victories with you, as well as the updated CDC fluoridation statistics, but first, we have an update on our annual fundraiser, which will allow us to continue our campaign efforts in 2026.
DONATIONS STILL DOUBLED – Please Help Us Win More Local Battles
In the past 48 hours, we’ve raised $1,960 from 31 supporters in an effort to raise the necessary funds for our 2026 operating budget. This amount is doubled due to our $5,000 doubling-challenge from our long-time supporter in Colorado. This brings our current total to $33,831 from 255 supporters. Our current goal is $150,000 from 600 donors by midnight Pacific Time on December 31st. All donations, large and small, are crucial to us and are tax-deductible. Let’s finish this together!
The next $1,875 donated will still be doubled. Donate now for double the impact.
Thank you to all who have made a donation towards our 2026 budget and campaign funds. It’s crucial we maintain the momentum I discuss in today’s bulletin, so we can ensure that fluoridation becomes a thing of the past for you and the world. FAN is dedicated to creating more resources and talking points for campaigners, providing more analysis on key studies, recruiting more professionals to support local campaigners, raising greater awareness in the media and among decision makers, and assisting advocates for safe water around the globe with their campaigns. With your generous financial help, we can make ending water fluoridation the greatest public health achievement of the 21st Century.

OVER 80 MAJOR VICTORIES IN THE PAST 14 MONTHS
It seems like a week hasn’t gone by over the past year without a city, county, or state voting to end water fluoridation. And a day hasn’t gone by without multiple campaigners contacting FAN from around the world asking how they can take action in their own communities to ban the practice. In recent weeks, fairly large cities like Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sunbury, Pennsylvania, Pasco, Washington, and Bloomington, Indiana have voted to remove the additive. They followed larger communities like Southeast Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Lee County (Florida), Hillsboro (Oregon), and Kingston (Ontario), who voted it out earlier this year. Almost all of these votes were either non-partisan or bi-partisan.
FAN has been tracking the victories since our federal court ruling in September of 2024, and so far, 81 communities, serving water to approximately 29,539,568 people have ended, suspended, or prevented water fluoridation, including several communities that have indefinitely postponed or rejected proposals to initiate fluoridation. This number includes members of the public who reside in Utah and Florida, where legislation has been passed banning fluoridation, thus protecting both citizens who had fluoridated water and those who didn’t, but who now no longer face the threat of being fluoridated.
At this moment, there are also over 47 communities considering resolutions or referendums to end the practice, and that list grows with each day.

UPDATED FLUORIDATION STATISTICS SHOW UNPRECEDENTED CHANGE
The wave of victories thus far has made an unprecedented impact. The percentage of the US population receiving fluoridated water dropped from 62.8% down to 55.5%. This brings us within striking distance of having a majority of the U.S. population consuming non-fluoridated drinking water for the first time in decades. One more victory at the state-level or a few more big municipal or county victories should help us achieve this milestone in the coming months.
The percentage of the U.S. population on community water systems (CWS is how the CDC refers to public water supplies) receiving fluoridated water has dropped from 72.3% in 2022 to 64% in December of 2025. See the chart below for the updated statistics.

*A special thank you goes out to two of our incredible volunteer community organizers and researchers, Rick North and Lynne Campbell, who compiled this data.
FAN has been the leader in helping hundreds of communities and thousands of local organizers either defeat efforts by pro-fluoridation lobbyists to add harmful chemicals to water supplies or end existing fluoridation schemes. The staff and volunteers at FAN work tirelessly throughout the year to give each and every person around the world the gift of cleaner and safer water, untainted by fluoridation chemicals. Our work has become more urgent with each passing year as a large and growing body of research, much of it government-funded, has exposed the dangers posed to our children, especially with respect to fluoride’s impact on the development of their brains.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to a charitable cause that will help restore scientific integrity back into public health decisions, protect your water, protect your health, protect our children’s developing brains, and defend your personal freedom to choose whether to ingest fluoride.
Thank you,
Stuart Cooper
Executive Director
