The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave its Water Fluoridation Quality Award to 23 water systems in Louisiana, who are taking the lead for better oral health care in their communities!
The Quality Award recognizes communities that achieved excellence in Community Water Fluoridation by maintaining a consistent level of fluoridated water throughout the year. These 23 Louisiana systems are among 1,523 public water systems in 36 states receiving this Quality Award.

The CDC states that water fluoridation is one of the best investments that a community can make in maintaining the oral health of its citizens. Drinking fluoridated water is an easy way to keep teeth strong and avoid decay. When a community fluoridates their water, they are adding just the right amount to optimize its benefits and prevent cavities.
The 13 parishes represented by these systems make up part of the 44% of Louisiana residents who receive the benefits of community water fluoridation, compared to almost 75% nationally.
Well-Ahead’s Oral Health Promotion team provides training, assistance and, when available, grant funding to help communities who want to fluoridate their water. We also offer an online Community Water Fluoridation toolkit that helps communities start and maintain water fluoridation.
