Fluorosis among children below 15 years is on the rise, according to a report.

The Oral Health Report launched by the Health ministry yesterday said 41.4 per cent of children have fluorosis, a condition which causes tooth discolouration.

Some 23.7 per cent of adults have the condition.

Research in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Rift Valley showed residents are exposed to water with fluoride above the recommended level.

The report said three out of four children in Kenya suffer from bleeding gums due to poor oral hygiene.

University of Nairobi’s Dental School dean Loice Gathece said the survey was conducted between August and November 2014 among 2,298 children.
