RESOLUTION 24-31
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DISCONTINUATION OF FLUORIDATION
WHEREAS, in January 2024 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted an
inspection of the Lodi Utilities Water Department; and
WHEREAS, the EPA noted that the utility is non-compliant with code regarding the
storage of fluoride and chlorine in the same room at all three well houses; and
WHEREAS, the cost estimates to separate and contain the fluoride and chlorine in all
well houses vary from $521,800 (using existing equipment) to $637,700 (new equipment); and
WHEREAS, the utility is not required to fluoridate the water supply; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works and Utilities Committee has reviewed the estimates and
recommended discontinuing fluoridation of the water to avoid burdening the utility ratepayers
with over a half million-dollar expense to become compliant.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lodi, Wisconsin, authorizes
the discontinuation of fluoridation of the water supply.
