WHEREAS, Pursuant to l~dtana Code§ 36-9-2-14, the Town Council has the authority to establish and maintain the municipal water system; WHEREAS, The Town’s water system currently utilizes supplemental fluoridation treatment to adjust fluoride levels for oral health benefits; WHEREAS, Recent review of public health standards, community values, cost implications, and scientific considerations suggests supplemental fluoridation may no longer be necessary or desired. The Town Council has determined that discontinuing water fluoridation is in the best interests of the community; and WHEREAS, Discontinuing supplemental fluoridation aligns with certain municipalities in Indiana and other states that have acted similarly when natural fluoride levels are adequate; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF POSEYVILLE, INDIANA, THAT: Section 1 – The Town Council hereby authorizes the discontinuation of supplemental fluoride addition to the Town’s public water supply. Section 2-The Town’s Water Utility Manager is hereby directed to: a) Initiate any necessary permit modifications or regulatory filings related to discontinuing fluoridation; b) The Town will post notice for 30 days prior to discontinuance on the public web page; Section 3 – This resolution shall become effective 30 days after passage and adoption by the Town Council.
