ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Abilene City Council made the decision to temporarily ban fluoride in the city’s water.

Abilene’s history with fluoride in water has gone back and forth. The first ban took place in 1964; however, the ban was removed in 2000. The city council unanimously voted in favor of the fluoride ban, as many expressed their concerns about the issue.

Council Member Kyle McAllister suggested that the Trump Administration would have Robert F. Kennedy look into the fluoride-in-water situation. At the same time, Council Member Brian Yates responded that he favored permanently banning the addition of fluoride water and was opposed to waiting, as Blaise Regan also agreed with Yates’s position on fluoride in water.

City Manager Robert Hanna said the ban won’t happen tomorrow or next meeting, but Stanley Smith and him will meet next week to discuss the ban.

One of Abilene’s citizens, Tammy Fogle, responded, “it’s not your job to tell us what we voted for or how to fix it, even though you legally can; I believe in the law, the constitution, and I believe in our charter, and we need to fix our charter.”
