THUMBS DOWN: To the continuing effort to prevent water fluoridation in Watsonville’s water supply. Even while the California Dental Association tries to move forward with fluoridation — it offered the city $1.6 million to put in a new system — opponents are dragging their feet. That’s a shame, because the dental group points out that many children in lower socio-economic groups are suffering from tooth decay and other medical problems at a higher rate than children in other areas. Despite what the critics say, a fluoridated water supply in Watsonville would prevent more public-health problems than it would create.
