BELLINGHAM — With changes to fluoride regulations in drinking water being in recent news reports, the Department of Public Works announced today fluoride has never and will never be added to the town’s drinking water system.

During routine sampling of the town’s raw water, there is testing done for fluoride, and the results have shown either no or a small trace of fluoride in the untreated water.

The department’s announcement said this is not surprising, as fluoride does not naturally occur in the state’s aquifers, which are underground, water-bearing rocks that water can be taken from.
