BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. Village trustees in Bellows Falls (Vermont) plan this week to revisit a long-running debate over adding fluoride to public water supplies.

The village has done so for three decades in an effort to fight tooth decay. But now Luise Light — a trustee who is also a nutritionist — is urging her fellow trustees to reconsider that policy.

Light says studies have linked fluoride to bone cancer and other health problems.

Burlington is currently reviewing its policy of adding fluoride to the water supply. The southern Vermont towns of Brattleboro and Bennington both rejected adding the element to their water in the past several years.

Bellows Falls trustees are to take up the matter at their meeting tomorrow night.
