… Following a brief procedural discussion the commission voted 3-2 against putting the question on the November ballot. Commissioners Laura Sansom, Derek Gaylord and Gene Towne voted against placing the question on the ballot, while mayor Ron Grunch and commissioner Tom Neidhamer voted in favor of putting it on the ballot.
The vote was split the same way on May 13 when the commission voted to discontinue fluoridating the city’s water supply.
The decision came on the heels of extensive public comment from health officials on one side imploring the commission to continue adding fluoride to the water system as a means of bolstering dental health and others on the other side voicing concerns over possible negative long-term effects of ingesting fluoride…
