BOYNE CITY — Come November, voters in Boyne City will have the opportunity to decide for themselves if the city’s water supply should have fluoride added to it.

After being presented with a valid petition seeking to enact an ordinance requiring the city to add fluoride to its water supply, the Boyne City City Commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to put the ordinance on the November general election ballot.

If voters ultimately approve the ordinance, it would undo an action the commission took in May, when it voted 3-2 to discontinue supplementing the naturally-occurring fluoride in the city’s water supply to bring the fluoride level up to the recommended 0.7 parts per million.
