The fluoride dosing facility servicing Brisbane’s major water treatment plants at Mt Crosby will be taken off line for a major upgrade.

The Holts Hill Fluoride Dosing Facility provides fluoridation for treated water produced at the Mt Crosby East Bank Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and West Bank WTP, which supply the majority of treated drinking water to Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan. Acting Seqwater chief executive officer Dan Spiller said the upgrade would allow for the ongoing safe fluoridation of drinking water provided by both plants into the future.

Works are scheduled to start on Friday 3 November 2017 and take approximately four months to complete. During this period, non-fluoridated drinking water will be provided by both plants.

“Queensland Health has advised there is no need for the community to take any action as dental health benefits of fluoride are achieved and maintained over many years,” Mr Spiller said.

“Queensland Health has advised the duration of this essential shutdown will have little impact on benefits provided by a fluoridated drinking water supply.”

The improvement works will include upgraded monitoring and dosing systems.
