Cape Fear Public Utility Authority resumes water fluoridation
after a brief pause.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority stopped water fluoridation at the sites December 12 2025, as upgrades were made to the feed process.
Fluoride in drinking water is advised both at a federal and state level and is added to water after treatment and before distribution. The CDC recommends a fluoride concentration of 0.7 ppm as a means to prevent tooth decay.
CFPUA’s improvements to its Sweeny and Richardson plants have been completed and water fluoridation resumed July 6.
