The city of Arab is asking a judge to order its water board to put fluoride back in the city’s water system.

The board stopped putting fluoride in the system last August, but city officials maintain it needs to go back in for good dental health.

But one resident says fluoride has created medical issues for her and has started a campaign to help keep it out.

“I started a petition about a month ago in support of the water company’s decision to not add the fluoride to our water anymore, and I’ve got 1,120 signatures just putting them in convenience stores inside the gas stations,” said Arab resident Melissa Thrower.

The judge said he would take the water company’s motion to dismiss the case under advisement, but has not yet ruled for the city’s request for an injunction.
