Hamilton City Council has been forced to put fluoridation of the city’s water supply on hold.
It was meant to have resumed today.
But Council spokesman Blair Bowcott says Safe Water Alterative NZ has lodged an interim injunction in the High Court, which won’t be heard until Wednesday.
“The interim judge is seeking to stop the reconnected fluoridation. Once we know that decision we’ll be able to make a determination as to whether we start the fluoridation process or not.
“For more substantive court hearings on the actual case that has been taken to council, is probably at least a month, possibly up to two months away and that is obviously set down in High Court to actually test the decision of council.”
The Council decided to reintroduce fluoridation following a referendum in favour of it.
