Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday in Miami that he will sign bills to prevent local governments from adding fluoride to water supplies and prevent aircraft from releasing chemtrails. He said the fluoride prohibition, which is included in a broader bill, is designed to prevent “forced medication.”

The Legislature has not formally sent the bills to the governor.

“We have other ways where people can get access to fluoride when you do this in the water supply,” he said. “You’re taking away a choice of someone who may not want to have overexposure to fluoride.”

Cities and counties have added fluoride to drinking water for decades to bolster dental health but recently have debated whether to continue the practice.

Florida Dental Association President Jeff Ottley released a statement Tuesday expressing disappointment in Mr. DeSantis’ plan to sign the bill.

“The Florida Dental Association strongly reinforces that fluoridation is a naturally occurring mineral, not a medication, that is already present in the water in many parts of the country, including Florida,” Mr. Ottley said. “Water fluoridation has been researched for more than 80 years, and overwhelming, credible scientific evidence consistently indicates that fluoridation of community water supplies is safe and effective at preventing and repairing tooth decay.”

The fluoride ban was included in a measure dubbed the “Florida Farm Bill,” which made a series of changes related to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Among other things, the bill includes a restriction on plant-based foods being labeled milk, meat, poultry or eggs.

The other bill would prohibit the “injection, release, or dispersion, by any means, of a chemical, a chemical compound, a substance, or an apparatus into the atmosphere within the borders of this state for the express purpose of affecting the temperature, weather, climate, or intensity of sunlight.” Mr. DeSantis said “people think that they can solve global warming by just putting stuff into the atmosphere.”
