You would expect the City Council’s vote to continue the fluoridation of the Dallas water supply to be a no-brainer. But given the months of nonsense from a small, persistent group of fluoride foes, we want to commend the overwhelming majority of the council for approving the three-year contract. Seventy-plus years of established science makes clear that “yes” was the responsible vote. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists fluoridation as one of the top 10 public health achievements of the 20th century. Too bad council members Sheffie Kadane and Adam Medrano saw it differently and voted no. Fluoridation is a good backstop for everyone — and the only dental care that many of the city’s neediest residents can afford.
