WITH fluoridation of the water supply currently scheduled to take place next month, Eurobodalla Shire Council has developed a web page to help keep the community in the loop.

The new Fluoridation of the Eurobodalla’s Water Supply page outlines the process that led to Council’s decision in May 2008 to introduce fluoride. “It also includes the steps that still need to be taken before this can occur,” acting water and waste director Amanda Jones said.

The next step is the completion of the new Northern Water Treatment Plant currently under construction.

“Our plan is to introduce fluoride when we commission the new treatment plant. At present, this is scheduled to occur on March 31.”

Ms Jones said if there were any delays to the commissioning of the treatment plant, council would post up-to-date information on the new web page and also keep the local media informed.

In addition to the process, Ms Jones says her team has also included links to other important information on the introduction of fluoride such as the NSW Department of Health’s Code of Practice for the Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies and the report on Council’s community consultation.

For community members interested in finding out more about fluoride, the site also provides contact details for the Centre of Oral Health Strategy.
