A former director of the Division of Oral Health at the Centers for Disease Control will lead a discussion in Wichita on Tuesday about the fluoridation of water. The public is invited to attend the discussion by Bill Maas, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Via Christi Family Medicine/Specialty Clinics, 707 N. Emporia (use south entrance).

The event is sponsored by Wichitans for Healthy Teeth, a group that is in favor of fluoridating Wichita’s water. Voters will decide the issue on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Questions for Maas to address during the discussion can be sent to the hash tag #FluorideICT on Twitter. Maas is a policy adviser to the Pew Children’s Dental Campaign and a clinical professor at the University of Maryland Dental School’s department of health promotion and policy. From 1997 to 2001, he served as the chief dental officer of the U.S. Public Health Service and as an assistant surgeon general.
