FLUORIDE ACTION NETWORK
HAUDENOSAUNEE ENVIRONMENTAL TASK FORCE
(Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, Tuscarora)
The First Citizens’ Conference on Fluoride will be held at St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York, and at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse at Akwesasne, near Massena NY.
The conference has been convened to enable citizens, environmentalists, and those working in the public health and regulatory sectors to learn firsthand about the toxicity of fluoride and its adverse effects on humans and the environment. Presentations by scientists and researchers will be targeted to a citizen audience.
Concerns about fluoride’s toxicity are heightened by results from numerous published studies in the last 8 years reporting serious effects from fluoride exposure, including adverse effects on: the brain, bone, male reproductive system, kidney, liver, lung, thyroid, and G-proteins (an important mechanism that controls critical intracellular communication).
The Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne is located next to Massena, NY and Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. Akwesasne abuts the Reynolds aluminum smelter and has been adversely impacted for years from Reynolds’ fluoride emissions. In the 1970s, cows grazing on Cornwall Island were poisoned by the fluoride emissions from Reynolds. Presentations on the poisoning incident and current health concerns will be addressed at the conference.
The goal of this conference is to bring together scientists, citizens interested in fluoride, environmentalists, public health personnel, news media, doctors, dentists, and legal experts to learn about and share information on the current state of knowledge of fluoride’s toxicity.
The campus of St. Lawrence University is especially beautiful in the summer. It is located in Northern New York State, close to the Adirondack Mountains and Thousand Islands Region of the St. Lawrence River. Canada is nearby with Ottawa 1.5 hours and Montreal 2.5 hours by car. Syracuse is 2.5 hours and served by bus. Rooms and meals will be available at St. Lawrence University for reasonable rates.
Fluoride Action Network (FAN) is an international coalition concerned about the multiple adverse impacts of fluoride. FAN is a project of the non-profit American Environmental Health Studies Project.
