Voters in Spokane and East Wenatchee voted against adding fluoride to their drinking water.

The fluoridation proposal was rejected in Spokane by 51 percent of the voters and by 53 percent of the voters in East Wenatchee.

Spokane also rejected water fluoridation in 1969 and 1984.

About 68 percent of Americans drink fluoridated water. Supporters say it prevents tooth decay. Opponents says it’s a poison and putting it in the water supply violates their right to choose.
