DuBois residents who ask city council to remove fluoride from their water would be referred to the elections office, Manager John “Herm” Suplizio said at yesterday’s work session.

Minutes from a Nov. 9, 1964 meeting show council decided to present the question of fluoridation of its public water supply to voters on the Nov. 3, 1964 general election ballot. According to the minutes, DuBois’ citizens overwhelmingly voted in favor of having the city’s water supply fluoridated.

Residents have contacted city officials asking for the removal of fluoride after studies showed it might cause cancer and other health issues, Suplizio said.
