SUPPORTERS of fluoride should stockpile water on Wednesday because fluoridation of Fraser Coast water is set to stop on Thursday.

The decision came after the council voted to cease the controversial practice 8-3 at a February ordinary meeting.

It was a vote made possible following an LNP decision late last year to remove the mandate on fluoride and allow local governments across the state to decide for themselves.

The costs to stop fluoridation are not expected to exceed $25,000.

Wide Bay Water Corporation will save $165,000 each year.
