Tauranga City Council (TCC) will meet today to tackle several big issues facing the city, including un-fluoridated water and the Civic Whare, Exhibition and Museum project.
Local councils around the country have had a tough time of late – with Wellington City Council appointing a crown observer and Auckland City Council facing almost 100 days of upcoming train stoppages in 2025.
The TCC said it would be considering a number of important decision for the future of the city on Monday and Tuesday.
The city was looking for transparency around decision making, Mayor Mahé Drysdale said.
Here’s what the council will be looking at:
Un-fluoridated water supply options
Options for access to un-flouridated water are set to be analysed and costed by councillors, after the council began fluoridating the city water supply at the request of the Director-General of Health.
A report will be presented to council on different options, with councillors then determining how to proceed.
Drysdale said he believed the freedom of choice for residents around fluoride in the regions water supply was important.
“As we are now moving into a new phase of this project, we need to review the current funding arrangements and ensure all viable options have been explored to deliver the best outcomes for the community.”
