Fluoride opponents vow to continue fight in Blount County

Opponents of fluoridation say utility customers’ approval of adding the substance to their water will not dampen their zeal to remove it.

“We will continue,” said Linda King of Citizens for Blount County’s Future, “until the board gives us proof that it does not harm people and will take liability if it does.”

… The utility last month sent cards to its customers to allow them to vote on whether to continue fluoridating the water, and Henry Durant, district manager, said that a majority signaled their approval. The vote was 51 percent in favor and 49 percent against, he said, with about 35 percent — or about 5,000 — of customers responding.

… King also disputes the results of the utility vote, saying that some customers got two ballots in their bills and others got none…
