Fluoride: The controversy beyond our toothbrushes

Could my toothpaste be making me fat? Has fluoride been added to my water supply in an attempt only to help industrial company’s bottom line? Would you believe that it was once used for rat poison? And that it is linked to thyroid issues, hip fractures, fertility problems, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, neurological and brain functions? Can you fathom the fact that fluoride is nothing more than industrial toxic waste?

According to some sources, there is enough fluoride in half of the average tube of toothpaste to kill a small child. Our toothpaste (going in the trash today) advises me to call the poison control center if it is ingested. Now I read that we tend to ingest 33 percent while brushing our teeth, even if we don’t swallow. Furthermore, the FDA has never approved fluoride supplements, yet they are given to our children regularly. We use it every day and have never questioned its place in our lives. Until now.

The larger issue is fluoride in our water, which is purposely tainted against our will. Why? More people in this country drink fluoridated water than in the rest of the world combined. However, the teeth of children in European nations, 98 percent of which have banned fluoride, are just as healthy as our children’s teeth. There is no good reason for adding it to water. There are many reasons to avoid it like the plague.

The fluoride chemical added to tap water is called “hydrofluorosilicic acid,” which is a corrosive acid that is captured in air pollution control devices and strong enough to eat through concrete. Fluoride was an element used to produce the atomic bomb, so the proponents have reason to keep it around. But it is no longer a secret, hidden for decades by scientists trying to protect themselves from massive litigation, and it is not a position of paranoia: Fluoride is extremely dangerous to our health.

After 10 years of research, journalist Christopher Bryson wrote a groundbreaking book titled, “The Fluoride Deception,” and you glimpse an overview of his research on YouTube. The book exposes multiple cases of renowned scientists who spoke out against fluoride over the years and were fired for their public opposition. There are studies upon studies revealing the damage of fluoride in air pollution from industry and the toxic nature of fluoridation of the water supply.

There’s always another side to the story, of course. But if you look closely to the now-exposed documentation, the evidence is astonishing. In fluoride’s corner of the ring are the same folks who brought us lead in our gasoline, asbestos in our building materials and promoted ad campaigns that dentists advised smoking cigarettes. If you need more reasons to avoid fluoride, check out the Fluoride Action Network at www.fluoridealert.org for a list of 50 reasons.

No wonder that across the country, people are becoming concerned, and individual communities are demanding change and rejecting fluoride in their water. We must be informed and question authority, find the source of information that we trust and take action. We owe it to the children in this country to discover this atrocity and fight to have it revealed.

Since 2010, more than 150 communities have banned fluoride in their water. What are we waiting for? I’m ready to fight, and if you want to join me please email me at verdemom@ymail.com. Together, we can make it happen, make a small change with a large impact, starting at our water faucets.
