SANDY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A week after Sandy water was reported contaminated the health department is testing residents blood.

Salt Lake County Health Department and Intermountain Healthcare offered free blood tests to Sandy water consumers who were affected by the recent contamination.

Blood test appointments were first come first serve and provided to help bring peace of mind to Sandy residents. Officials say it’s possible for additional testing to become available at a later date.

A pump malfunction on February 7th added fluoride into the water supply for Sandy residents, corroding pipes which raised lead and copper levels in drinking water. The contamination sickened more than one hundred people living in the affected areas.

Sandy City officials didn’t notify the public of the contamination until eight days after the issue occurred.
