A new push is underway from health authorities to provide more information on fluoridation.

A new website, www.fluoridefacts.govt.nz, has been set up to help communities facing referenda on fluoridation of their water supplies make informed decisions.

Health Minister Tony Ryall has concerns about some of the anti-fluoride campaigns.

“Quite clear that in a number of parts of the country there is organised campaigns of misinformation. So this is about providing factual information for communities to look at.”

Mr Ryall says opponents are entitled to make their arguments but he’s critical of their tactics.

“They have a formula and the formula is based on a whole lot of misinformation and confusion and in some parts of the country it’s worked, which is a problem.”
