THE alleged fluoride “contamination” of Gympie Region tap water is not something the council can do anything about, even if some residents now find they cannot or will not use the water provided.
Councillors this week considered an application for a water rate reduction for a resident who claimed a rare skin disease meant showering in tap water was now impossible and as a result the resident had to buy bottled water to bathe in.
The resident sought a reduction in water charges as the reticulated supply was no longer being used.
The council was advised to reply that the fluoride is there because of State Government legislation and that, therefore, “no water rate relief can be given in this instance”.
