Kaitangata residents will be drinking fluoridated water from today.

Clutha District Council water services manager Hank Stocker said at a recent district assets committee meeting that fluoridation of the Kaitangata supply was due to start today, following on from the fluoridation of the Tapanui water supply in mid-December, and of the Milton supply in mid-January.

The concentration has been monitored regularly and was within the recommended range, he said.

No feedback, positive or negative, had been received by the council, but the communities had voted in favour of the fluoridation scheme.

Capital costs for the project were fully funded by the Ministry of Health; operating costs are met by the council and were running within budget, Mr Stocker reported.

Kaitangata parents giving their children fluoride tablets should stop this once fluoridation of the water supply begins, he said.
