The Kapiti Coast District Council has voted to continuing adding fluoride to the water supplies of Waikanae, Paraparaumu and Raumati.

The mayor and councillors voted 8 to 2 in favour of supporting continued fluoridation on Thursday.

The vote followed weeks of controversy with clashes between anti-fluoride activists and health officials at council chambers two weeks ago.

Some 46,000 people are affected by the decision.
